The Festival of the Arts (FASMA) 2026 is currently in full swing in San Miguel de Allende. Running from August 7 through August 23, the festival features over 100 cultural activities across the city, including music, cinema, theater, literature, and visual arts. France is the guest of honor for this year’s edition.
Here are some of the activities and exhibitions available during the week of August 11 to August 16, 2026:
Film Screenings: On Tuesday, August 11, the Teatro Santa Ana hosted a screening of Los demonios del amanecer (dir. Julián Hernández). As part of the wider programming, a French Film Cycle is running from August 10 through August 21, featuring various selections for cinema lovers.
Art Exhibitions: Several major exhibitions are open to the public throughout the week:
“Convergencias: 75 Años de Legado Artístico” at the Instituto Allende, showcasing a dialogue between different generations of creators.
“La Parisienne” and various works by French and Mexican artists, with specific displays located at Fábrica La Aurora, which is currently serving as a hub for festival-related activities and French-themed proposals.
“Leonora Carrington: El último bestiario”: An exhibition featuring the artist’s later sculptures and photographs.
“Ray Smith: The Wild Order”: A dedicated exhibit for the influential contemporary Mexican artist.
Upcoming Major Events:
August 15: A grand performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, bringing together more than 100 choral singers and 50 musicians.
Ongoing: Various workshops, such as the Cartonería (paper-mâché) workshop taught by award-winning master Karel Gorenc.
