The Housing for Well-Being program has reached 66% of its six-year housing construction target in Yucatán, reported Edna Elena Vega Rangel, Secretary of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development, during a live connection with President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo from Kanasín.
From the Los Girasoles housing development in this municipality, which is part of the metropolitan area of Mérida, the official explained that Yucatán’s goal is to build 72,770 homes during the six-year administration, of which 66% has already been achieved.
Vega Rangel highlighted that the progress is the result of coordination between the federal government, the state government, and municipal authorities to accelerate housing construction for Yucatecan families.
According to the official, the six-year target is divided as follows:
- Infonavit: 60,000 homes
- Conavi: 10,000 homes
- Fovissste: 2,770 homes
Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena emphasized that the program is already becoming a reality in different municipalities across the state. He stated that, through Infonavit, 20 housing developments have been contracted, representing 38,500 homes, while Conavi plans to build another 9,000 homes in 29 municipalities.
“We are bringing housing to communities throughout the state,” the governor said, emphasizing that these actions seek to reduce economic inequality and guarantee that Yucatecan families have access to decent housing.
Meanwhile, Octavio Romero Oropeza, Director General of Infonavit, reported that the institute’s target for Yucatán is 60,000 homes and that 38,530 have already been contracted through 20 projects.
The official added that during this year, another 16,000 homes are expected to be contracted through 14 projects, which would bring Infonavit to 91% of its six-year target in the state.
In Kanasín, where the presidential address took place, the Los Girasoles development will include 2,488 homes. This Wednesday, housing began to be delivered to 208 families.
National Progress
At the national level, Romero Oropeza reported that Infonavit is currently opening and delivering homes in 112 housing developments. Of these, 40 have already been completely allocated, benefiting approximately 34,300 people.
With the progress reported in Yucatán, the federal government highlighted the pace of housing construction as part of the Housing for Well-Being strategy, whose objective is to expand access to decent homes for working families.
