Nearly 80 young people from Yucatán seeking admission to the National School of Higher Studies (ENES) Mérida of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) will receive support from the state government to travel to Mexico City and take their In-Person Control Examination.
After applicants protested and demanded that the evaluation be administered in Yucatán, Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena announced Tuesday that his administration would cover the main travel expenses, including transportation, food, lodging, and local transportation during the students’ stay in Mexico City.
UNAM Begins In-Person Examination in León
During the protest, the students argued that traveling to Mexico City represented an expense that not all families could afford, which is why they requested that the examination be administered in Yucatán.
However, one day before the examinations were scheduled to begin, the examination location had not been changed. The state government therefore met with applicants from Mérida and other municipalities.
Authorities told the students that the government would cover the main expenses associated with their participation in the process as part of a policy aimed at expanding educational opportunities and ensuring that students can compete on equal terms.
To facilitate their transportation, the participants will travel in two groups using two buses that will take them to Mexico City.
During their stay, they will also receive meals, lodging, and transportation between their accommodations and the UNAM examination site, allowing them to focus entirely on their examination.
The young people from Yucatán are seeking admission to several programs offered by ENES Mérida, including:
- Sustainable Management of Coastal Zones
- Applied Sociology
- Biology
- Computer Engineering
UNAM Announces Examination Schedule
UNAM announced Tuesday that the In-Person Control Examination for applicants assigned to locations outside Mexico City will begin this Wednesday in León, Guanajuato.
According to the General Directorate of School Administration (DGAE), as of 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 45,463 applicants had already downloaded their examination appointments and knew the location, date, and time when they were required to take the test.
In León, 2,122 applicants had completed their registration by the 4:00 p.m. cutoff.
The examination will be administered at the Hotel Real de Minas Poliforum from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. On Thursday, August 13, three examination sessions will be available:
- 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
- 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
In Oaxaca, Oaxaca, the examination will also be administered on Thursday, August 13, with the same three time slots.
In Tijuana, Baja California, the examination will take place on Sunday, August 16, with two sessions:
- 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Requirements for Applicants
UNAM reminded applicants that they must arrive with:
- A valid official identification document.
- Their printed examination appointment confirmation.
- They must arrive one hour before the examination begins to complete the admission registration process.
Each examination consists of 120 questions, and applicants will have a maximum of three hours to complete it.
During the examination, cell phones are prohibited, and applicants will not be allowed to enter with backpacks, bags, or large items.
