Canacintra Identifies Michoacán as One of the Most Corrupt States

Michoacán ranks among the states with the highest perception of corruption nationwide, said Aramis Sosa Cedeño, president of the National Chamber of the Transformation Industry (Canacintra).

During the signing of an agreement with the Executive Secretariat of the State Anti-Corruption System, the business leader stated that nearly 90 percent of the population in Michoacán considers corruption to be a frequent practice.

Sosa Cedeño based his statements on statistics from the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO).

According to the National Survey of Competitiveness and Government Impact, only 31 percent of companies in Mexico conduct an anti-corruption risk assessment.

The president of Canacintra pointed out that the situation is even more limited in Michoacán, where only 10 percent of companies carry out actions aimed at strengthening integrity.

“Here in Michoacán, only 10 percent of all companies carry out activities to improve integrity, such as anti-corruption policies and reporting channels. With this agreement, what we are seeking is for Michoacán companies, when they are proposed as local suppliers, to no longer compete solely on price, quality, or delivery, but also on matters of integrity,” he stated.

He explained that the agreement includes the development of a work plan that will include a survey aimed at Michoacán business owners.

The objective will be to identify which are the main acts of corruption that business owners perceive within these processes.

Based on the results, training programs will be designed to strengthen integrity practices in the productive sector.
