Somos México established its state-level structure in Yucatán yesterday, Sunday, during its first State Assembly, in which 54 delegates approved the formation of the State Council and elected Tonatiuh Villanueva Caltempa and Silvia Patricia Reyes Gómez as president and secretary general, respectively.
The slate for both positions was the only one presented and received 53 votes in favor and one abstention. The assembly also unanimously approved the integration of the State Council, made up of representatives from different municipalities and electoral districts of Yucatán.
The assembly constitutes the party’s highest deliberative and decision-making body in the state. After the State Council was elected, it held a session to form the State Committee, select its representatives before the local electoral authority, and appoint two people who will serve as national council members.
During the assembly, Roberto Heycher Cardiel Soto, national secretary for Electoral Operations and Alliances of Somos México, said that the party seeks to become a platform for citizen participation and emphasized that its goal is not solely to win elections. The national leader stated that for 2027 the party will require approximately 19,000 candidates and will seek to participate in electoral processes with the intention, he said, of restoring the rule of law, public security, institutions, and citizens’ rights.
Cardiel Soto also maintained that the organization will face an uneven contest against Morena because of the difference in public resources that both parties will receive. According to his statements, Morena would have approximately 7.2 billion pesos (million pesos, mdp) for the 2027 election, while Somos México would have around 200 million pesos.
Likewise, the national representative questioned the ruling that forced the party to change its name and colors, although he said they would comply with the decision of the electoral authorities.
In her remarks, Ana Rosa Payán called on party members to build municipal committees based on peace, order, justice, and transparency.
She said that those participating in the project are not seeking positions, money, or personal benefits, but rather to work and contribute to building a political alternative.
“Let us be honest, let us be honorable, let us be dreamers, let us be passionate about justice and transparency,” she said.
She also stated that the project seeks to contribute to building a democratic and free country with strong institutions.
