The content creator Lalo Gama sparked controversy on social media after posting a video about his visit to Tlaxcala, in which he resorted to jokes and clichés related to the state’s history, cuisine, and attractions.
In the recording, the influencer claimed that he was in “a state that betrayed the nation and continues to pay the price,” and questioned the contribution of Tlaxcalan cuisine to the country.
“I asked what there was to do in Tlaxcala, and they gave me a blank sheet of paper,” he said.
Gama continued with his criticism and compared the state’s food with that of Puebla, saying that it was “a lousy, poorly made copy of Pueblan cuisine.”
He also described Tlaxcala as “a black spot on Puebla’s nose” and ended part of his comments by calling the people of Tlaxcala “traitors.”
The content creator’s remarks prompted reactions from users, particularly residents and local pages, who considered that his comments went beyond humor and were offensive to the state’s identity.
WHAT DID LORENA CUÉLLAR SAY IN RESPONSE TO THE JOKES ABOUT TLAXCALA?
Amid the controversy generated by Lalo Gama’s comments, a supposed response attributed to Tlaxcala Governor Lorena Cuéllar began circulating on social media. In it, she apparently responds with the same tone of humor and sarcasm used by the content creator.
“The government is present in every community. Sometimes in the form of a banner announcing the construction project that will also be present someday,” one of the messages attributed to the governor states.
The supposed response continues with ironic references to opportunities in the state: “We have industry, commerce, services… and an excellent bus station for those who manage to find something better elsewhere.”
It also revisits one of the most commonly used clichés about the state: “Tlaxcala does not exist.”
“They have been laughing for years saying that Tlaxcala does not exist, but the Federal Government always keeps us in mind. That’s why every six years someone comes, promises a highway, and once again confirms our existence,” the message states.
