Sheinbaum’s Report in Cancún Focuses on Government Officials, While the Public Remains at the Back
The report by President Claudia Sheinbaum in this tourist city appeared to be directed toward the municipal presidents, the political hopefuls among members of the state Congress, and municipal government officials, who were seated in the front row.
Behind them were state and municipal government employees. At the very back was the public, who had been brought in from other municipalities.

The president of Mexico arrived in a black SUV, accompanied by the governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama. Claudia Sheinbaum was wearing a sober pink dress with fuchsia-colored Mexican details. The governor was dressed in white, wearing an embroidered blouse in the Quintana Roo style. They arrived at the stage and the governor’s speech began, which was nothing impactful, consisting only of thanks for the support provided for federal projects.
The applause came during the brief speech, although the audience was not paying much attention to the governor’s remarks. When she was introduced, the audience applauded.
The president of Mexico took the microphone and detailed Mexico’s epic history, naming the country’s transformations from Mexico’s Independence to the Fourth Transformation of Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
She spoke about the struggles to have an independent nation, beginning with the Mexican War of Independence of 1810. She referred to the Sentiments of the Nation, remembered the heroes, and emphasized giving a special place to the women of the independence movement, such as Leona Vicario. She divided Mexican history into transformations following independence, mentioning the invasions by the United States, the presence of Maximilian of Habsburg, and the Mexican Revolution as the third transformation, while identifying the Fourth Transformation with former Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. She returned to slogans such as: The Homeland Is Not for Sale, Unity, and Sovereignty Is With the Support of the People.
Andrés, referring to López Obrador, she said, does not ask for his name to be placed on streets or avenues. Andrés Manuel López Obrador wants to be in the hearts of the people, she said.
“Governments are of the people and for the people. Welfare programs transformed into Love,” she proclaimed.
The audience shouted and applauded when the president said that Mexico does not kneel before any foreign power. There was total excitement when she stated that governments belong to the people and are for the people.
The Results
After recognizing the heroes and heroines of Mexican history, she said, “I came to Quintana Roo to present the results of our work for the good of everyone, first the poor!” She began by stating that 116,690 older adults receive a pension. Another 23,000 people with disabilities receive a pension, and 9,500 participants in the Youths Building the Future program receive a minimum wage from the federal government and work at a company where they receive one year of training.
She also reviewed the figures for the 60,617 high school students who receive the Benito Juárez scholarship, as well as the 27,102 farmers who receive fertilizer. She said that 9,849 people have received support through the Sembrando Vida program, while 52,217 children receive milk for their nutrition. She also referred to the 681 new schools, with an investment of 78 million pesos.
When she mentioned the pension for women, they stood up and applauded. Claudia Sheinbaum said that women stop working to care for their families and are never paid for that work. “It is the time of women, and women have reached the Presidency,” she emphasized.
She added that eight Margarita Maza de Juárez high schools and two new preparatory schools are being built in Cancún.
The Future of Quintana Roo
The president highlighted that they will build a medical specialties tower, which will provide jobs for retired doctors who wish to return to work. They will continue receiving their pensions and will have additional financial support, she explained.
She announced that support for controlling sargassum will continue.
