September, the month of crisis for hoteliers in Tampico

September has proven to be a critical month for hoteliers, who point out that during the summer some of them met their expectations; however, an intense crisis has now begun, driven by families’ school-related expenses.

Due to the “back-to-school effect,” a seasonal phenomenon in which household spending is redirected entirely toward education, those working in this sector face difficult weeks until they manage to stabilize.

Sergio Maron Ceja, president of the Southern Tamaulipas Hotel Association, said that to survive this transition between the summer and the year-end holiday season, many hotels implement strategies such as attracting congresses, conventions, and corporate travel to compensate for the lack of family tourism.

Hoteliers in the southern part of the state are even planning to create weekend packages with attractive discounts for residents of the same city or neighboring states who do not require significant travel expenses.

He noted that regional tourism is usually an advantage and that, in coordination with municipal authorities, they are promoting campaigns to attract nearby visitors from places such as Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, and the Huasteca region.

He added that it is important for the challenges in Tampico’s historic center to be met through the development of infrastructure and the arrival of projected new buildings, in addition to the first five-star hotel, which is located near Laguna del Carpintero.
