The collapse of the structure prompted emergency services to respond.
Just after midday on Monday, June 3, the structure of the entertainment center ‘El Patio’ collapsed, causing emergency services to mobilize in Colonia Juárez, within the Cuauhtémoc borough.
Two vehicles were damaged following the collapse of this nightclub, which dates to the golden age of Mexican cinema; a bus was also affected after being struck by the falling structure.
‘El Patio’ was an entertainment venue that once hosted major stars of the golden age of Mexican cinema. Following the collapse, Civil Protection personnel and the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City cordoned off the area.
Additionally, firefighters from the capital city arrived at the scene to address the emergency and rule out potential harm to the public; emergency crews are conducting a search for possible victims, as the marquee was the part that fell onto the pedestrian area.
It is worth mentioning that the building located at Atenas #9 was undergoing demolition works, so it is presumed that the collapse could have been an accident related to the maneuvers being carried out inside.
The Secretariat of Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) has reported that following the collapse, two people were treated for nervous breakdowns. There are no records of injured persons.
