Tamaulipas seeks more firepower to combat crime

The governor of Tamaulipas, Américo Villarreal Anaya, said that operations have been reinforced and that they are seeking to increase the firepower of the State Guard to match that of organized crime.

He reported this when speaking about the events that occurred on Tuesday in the border area that have so far left three State Guard police officers dead and 24 men and women dead in the line of duty so far during his administration.

“We are present, active and as a result of this, there have been clashes that have been recorded, unfortunately also losses of State Guard elements and injuries in the condition of wanting to contain the circumstances and the presence of these criminal groups that are attacking the roads on federal highways and in clashes between them that have intensified between the two criminal groups that want to manifest their presence in this territory.”

Interviewed at the end of the parade in the capital of Tamaulipas, Ciudad Victoria, he stressed that they are working with all the state elements in the company of the Sedena and the National Guard, carrying out operations to reinforce the presence in this area.

He assured that he is saddened by the loss of lives of the State Guard personnel, as well as those of the Army, where there have also been casualties in protection and care of society and its assets.

In this sense, he stressed that they continue working on intelligence work, training, as well as on improving equipment and the use of technology to better respond to these situations.

He ruled out that security has been exceeded: “Not at all, you know how the condition is, not only in the national condition, statewide we had had conditions of relative calm and a good progression in our security indicators.”

However, he said that suddenly there are these circumstances that increase the rivalry of these criminal groups and in their opportunity to want to contain them and keep them within the framework of the law, these confrontations occur.

For this reason, work is being done on reinforcement: “There are already new facilities, others are under construction, we are equipping our police with increasingly better technology, equipment with a higher level of armor on the equipment and a greater fire capacity to be able to confront the same that the criminal groups have.”

To conclude, he said that together with the Sedena, the fire capacity will be increased, with higher calibers and levels of armor than what the criminals are using.
