The Ministry of Sustainable Environment and Climate Change closed a construction site located on Avenida 40 Norte and Federal Avenue after confirming the illegal felling of a tree without permits or an environmental assessment. The intervention was the result of citizen complaints spread on social media on Sunday night, where damage to the tree was reported and City Hall personnel were initially identified as responsible.
However, after a review of the area, it was determined that the incidents were carried out by individuals linked to the Nissan automotive company, which is building on the property. The head of the agency, Samantha Álvarez Hernández, reported that the case is being legally reviewed to establish sanctions in accordance with current environmental regulations.
The closure is part of efforts to halt the loss of vegetation cover in urban areas of Playa del Carmen and promote a development model that respects the environment.
