The Dark Knight returns to take over Mexico City during Batman Day 2025, a celebration that brings together thousands of fans of the iconic Gotham hero every September. This international holiday was created to commemorate Batman’s impact on pop culture and bring together fans of all ages around events, screenings, and interactive activities.

This year, Mexico City will be transformed into “Gotham” for one night, with a packed agenda of experiences, from film screenings and cosplay competitions to the highly anticipated lighting of the Bat-Signal at one of the city’s most iconic venues.

Why is Batman Day celebrated?

The Batman Day tradition began at San Diego Comic-Con to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the debut of the character created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. The event was so successful that DC Comics decided to institutionalize the celebration worldwide, choosing the third Saturday of September for fans to celebrate the legend of Bruce Wayne together each year.

In 2025, Saturday, September 20th will be the date designated for Mexico City to become the Latin American epicenter of homage to the superhero.

The agenda begins on Friday, September 19th, when the Jaime Torres Bodet Cultural Center, in the Ing. Alejo Peralta auditorium of the IPN (National Institute of Technology), will host a special marathon featuring Christopher Nolan’s trilogy.

Starting at 12:00 p.m., fans will be able to relive Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises, considered the most influential films featuring the character in recent decades.

On September 20th, Liverpool Gaming Fest sets up shop at Expo Banamex and becomes the meeting point for those who want to delve even deeper into the Batman universe.

There will be cosplay zones, freeplay with modern and retro video games, eSports tournaments, exhibitions, official merchandise sales, and meet-and-greets with influencers and guests, as well as workshops and activities designed for families and collectors.

Free Comics

As part of a joint effort with DC Comics, attendees at select stores will be able to get four free comics specially published for Batman Day 2025.

Highlighted titles include Batman Absolute #1, Batman and Robin: Year 1 #1, Batman: Year 2 #1, and Batman: Gotham Sampler #1, each featuring updated art and storytelling that expands on the hero’s story.

Batman for the Whole Family on TV and Streaming

The programming isn’t limited to in-person activities: Warner Channel, starting at 9:00 a.m., will host a marathon featuring films such as Batman v Superman – Dawn of Justice, Batman – The Dark Knight Rises, and Batman (2022).

Adult Swim will air animated series such as Batman Year One and the two parts of The Dark Knight starting at 7:33 p.m. For the little ones, Cartoon Network, Cartoonito, and Discovery Kids have prepared special broadcasts of LEGO Batman, Scooby-Doo & Batman: The Brave and the Bold, and themed episodes of Teen Titans GO! and Batwheels.

HBO Max users can enjoy a dedicated catalog of movies, series, and animated series, from classics like Batman: The Animated Series to more recent productions.

Batman Night Run

The celebration extends beyond the screen and auditoriums: Mexico, Brazil, and Chile will be part of the Batman Night Run, a nighttime race that brings together fans of all ages to run through the streets under the bat’s emblem. It’s an event that combines sport, socializing, and passion for the superhero.

One of the most anticipated moments will be the lighting of the famous “Bat Signal,” which promises to provide an unforgettable experience for fans. This year, the lighting will be part of the Liverpool Gaming Fest 2025 and will take place at Expo Banamex (Avenida del Conscripto, Lomas de Sotelo), where the iconic light will illuminate the capital’s sky starting at 8:00 PM on Saturday, September 20th.

Attendees will also enjoy a booth dedicated to the Dark Knight, ideal for taking photos and immersing themselves in the Gotham atmosphere.

Batman Day 2025 will be more than a tribute; it represents the relevance of a character that continues to captivate generation after generation. From the nostalgia of Nolan’s trilogy to new animated offerings and the experience of seeing the “Bat-Signal” conquer the capital’s sky, Mexico City will become Gotham for a weekend filled with excitement, community, and pop culture.
