Members of the Sinaloa Cartel, also known as the Pacific Cartel, are behind the strategy to expose, through videos, the political class of Morelos for their alleged ties to organized crime, revealed the state’s Secretary of Security, Miguel Ángel Urrutia.

After an expert analysis, he explained that the materials are “authentic and were not created with artificial intelligence.”

At a press conference to follow up on security issues, the official was questioned about the authenticity of the video released on September 19, which mentions a figure named Javier Chávez—and who in some social media posts was linked to Javier García Chávez, the governor’s office leader—a situation that prompted the official to file complaints with the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) against Facebook pages, media outlets, and journalists, arguing that those involved were being defamed because the video makes no reference to him.

In that same video, Senator Ángel Yáñez, Federal Representative Agustín Alonso, and Local Representative Francisco Sánchez Zavala, the latter three from the eastern part of Morelos, are mentioned for alleged ties to criminal groups.

Urrutia stated regarding this material: “The video is authentic, it was not generated with artificial intelligence, and it could be located in at least one of the two municipalities in the eastern part of Morelos, bordering the State of Mexico.”

He indicated that this video would be linked to the first material made public on February 18, 2025, also in the eastern part of the state. That first video documented a meeting between a possible criminal leader and political actors days before the June 2, 2024, election. Regarding those involved, he indicated that the second video shows the mayors of Cuautla, Jesús Corona Damián, and Atlatlahucan, Agustín Toledano Amaro, meeting with the criminal leader identified as Júpiter Araujo Bernard, known as “El Barbas.”

“Since this is an issue that the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) has already raised in the first video, and it appears that the same situation is being discussed in this second video, I believe the complaint to the Attorney General’s Office is correct,” Urrutia said.

He added that “the National Guard’s Cyber Police is one of the most specialized in the country, with three times the capacity we have in the cyber unit of the SSP Morelos.”

Regarding the possible perpetrators, he indicated that everything points to the fact that “it could coincide with the criminal group Pacific Cartel, which here calls itself ‘Los Sinaloas.'”

He specified that, due to internal disputes, “in Sinaloa, everyone calls themselves Sinaloa, when there are two groups: that of Mayo Zambada, currently imprisoned in the United States, and that of the sons of El Chapo, both known as the Pacific Cartel.”

Urrutia affirmed that the previous administration, led by then-governor and current federal deputy Cuauhtémoc Blanco Bravo, allowed criminal activity to grow in the eastern region, where criminal groups considered it a fertile area for extortion and other crimes.

“The vacuum and impunity of the previous administration made the eastern region a war zone for extortion, and there is a rift between two groups: the Pacific Cartel and the Unión Tepito Cartel, which also has ties to the state.” of Mexico with the Nuevo Imperio Cartel,” he noted.

Regarding the version that points to Homero Figueroa, alias La Tripa, as the author of the video, Urrutia explained that “it doesn’t fit with the investigation being conducted by the Attorney General’s Office,” although he reiterated that it is an ongoing investigation.

Finally, the secretary emphasized the importance of legal principles: “We must keep in mind that, according to Article 20 of the Constitution, the presumption of innocence exists for those potentially implicated, and all action by authorities must respect these rights while the corresponding investigations are carried out.”
