At a press conference in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, the call for entries to the “Matamoros Marathon 2025” was launched, with a prize pool of 268,000 pesos and a Boston Marathon qualifier.
Benjamín Hernández Rodríguez, head of Tourism, made the official presentation of the sporting event, accompanied by Mayor Alberto Granados, as well as Francisco Reséndiz of Bike and Run, and Myria Leal, Director of Tourism for Matamoros.
“The marathon will be held on November 30th in the heroic city of Matamoros, with a 42-kilometer marathon, a 21-kilometer half marathon, and 10-kilometer and 5-kilometer races, the latter being recreational,” the official explained.
More than 1,700 athletes are expected to participate, from Nuevo León, Veracruz, Coahuila, Brownsville, TX, McAllen, TX, San Luis Potosí, and Mexico City, among other states.
He recalled that the Ciudad Victoria Marathon was held last year for the Bicentennial, and now the venue will be Matamoros.
Hernández Rodríguez highlighted the drive and support that Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya is giving to sports through the Ministry of Tourism, with marathons, triathlons, cycling events, and other competitions being organized throughout the state.
For his part, the mayor of Matamoros said that this administration is making history. “For the first time, there will be a marathon in the city. We expect a large turnout of runners and will honor the name of Tamaulipas by promoting sports tourism.”
