On Monday afternoon, the murder of Karina Díaz Hernández, a councilwoman from the Morena party in the municipality of Palizada, Campeche, was confirmed.

The President of the Senate, Senator Laura Itzel Castillo Juárez, expressed her condolences on social media for Karina Díaz’s death. She urged authorities to clarify the facts and punish those responsible “immediately.”

The Campeche State Attorney General’s Office reported that state investigative agents responded to a call from a hospital reporting the admission of a woman with a gunshot wound.

Initial investigations by authorities indicate that Karina Díaz died “while receiving medical attention.”

“In accordance with established protocols for action and investigation, this institution has initiated the corresponding work to clarify the facts and determine the identity of those responsible,” the Attorney General’s Office stated.

Likewise, Erick Reyes, president of the Morena party in Campeche, lamented the councilwoman’s death.

“I always knew what a wonderful person you were; the dedication you radiated was contagious. This is a great loss for many, including me! Always attentive, always helping, always smiling,” he added.

Local media reported that the councilwoman was shot multiple times, and after her murder was confirmed, citizens outside the clinic began to voice their demands regarding these acts of violence.

The incident occurred two days after Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum visited the town to oversee road repairs.
