The Yucatecan capital will continue to host various film productions, an activity that has become a significant driver of tourism for the city, according to Armando Casares Espinosa, Director of Tourism for the Mérida City Council.
He reported that a film is currently being shot in the Yucatecan capital and that the municipal administration is already processing permits for two additional films.
“We know that Mérida is a good destination for filming movies. A film is being shot here right now; the mayor met with the actors and producers, and two more films are coming soon. We are already working on obtaining those permits,” he stated.
The official emphasized that these productions generate significant economic benefits and employment in the state. Each film shoot in Mérida hires between one hundred and one hundred and fifty local actors, in addition to the benefits related to hotels, airfare, food, staff, and production.
When asked about the titles of the next two films and the production companies, the director indicated that the information could not be revealed until the permitting process was complete.
“I can’t say because they’re requesting the permits; we’re in the process of obtaining them. It’s like in baseball, until it’s over. We have to wait until they give us the chance to tell you,” Casares Espinosa concluded.
