Three former employees of the Chiapas Civil Registry were arrested by state police, accused of illegally issuing birth certificates to foreign nationals in collusion with human trafficking networks, reported the head of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), Jorge Luis Llaven Abarca.

He explained that “on January 12, a formal complaint was received from the General Directorate of the Civil Registry, stemming from an internal audit conducted by its Internal Control Body, which detected irregularities in information handling and the use of computer systems, particularly in the processes of issuing and correcting birth certificates.”

He added that “based on these findings, the FGE initiated an investigation, identifying three men who worked at the Civil Registry and allegedly issued birth certificates illegally to foreign nationals in collusion with human trafficking networks.”

The prosecutor stated that “following the investigations, arrest warrants were obtained against Artemio N, Juan N, and Jorge N for the crimes of abuse of authority, criminal association, and unauthorized access to computer systems.”

He added that “the three defendants have already been arrested and are in the custody of the court, where they will face justice for the charges against them.”
