Chinese New Year: What time is the dragon parade in Mexico City?

4

Mexico City is preparing to welcome the 2026 Chinese New Year with a vibrant parade of dragons and lions in the Historic Center.

This event is organized by the National Museum of World Cultures, which will also be the starting point for the festivities. But that’s not all: if you want to know the full schedule, keep reading.

The Chinese New Year is one of the most important holidays in Eastern culture and marks the beginning of a new lunar cycle. Each year is represented by an animal of the Chinese zodiac, and 2026 corresponds to the horse, a symbol of change, courage, and transformation.

This symbol invites us to make decisions with determination and move forward with strength toward new projects. And you don’t have to travel too far to join the celebration; you can experience it in a big way right here in Mexico City.

Through social media, the National Museum of World Cultures announced its schedule of activities, which includes a parade featuring six lions and about 30 Chinese dragons.

The monumental figures will parade through the streets surrounding the Zócalo. At the end of the parade, various dance groups and martial arts demonstrations will take place at the museum.

There will also be cultural workshops, lectures, and even a themed costume contest. Best of all, all the activities are free.

When is the 2026 Chinese New Year Parade?

This 2026 Chinese New Year Parade will begin on Moneda Street, a few steps from the Zócalo, and will end at the National Museum of World Cultures in Mexico City.

It is scheduled for Saturday, February 7th at 10:00 a.m. It is recommended to arrive early so as not to miss any part of the parade.

One of the most anticipated activities is the “Eighth Annual Costume Contest: Year of the Horse,” organized by the Embassy of China in Mexico, the Chinese Cultural Center in Mexico, and the Chinese Community of Mexico, with the support of various cultural institutions.

The winners will be evaluated and announced on the same day as the event.
