In addition to La Familia Michoacana and local groups like ‘Los Toscano,’ there is another criminal leader who, from another state, is directing attacks in the vicinity of the Morelos Market in Puebla.
Interviewed after the reenactment of the Battle of May 5th in Puebla this Wednesday, May 6th, the state’s Secretary of Public Security, Francisco Sánchez, declined to name the leader.
“There is a fierce dispute between a faction of La Familia Michoacana and local groups. It’s a serious dispute. There is an individual who is not in the state, he’s abroad, but he also leads one of the organizations,” he revealed.
He commented that the organized crime cells do not want to lose control of extortion and protection rackets in that market, which is why the conflict continues.
“We have to continue our investigative work, in order to translate it into operations,” he explained.
The state Public Security Secretary insisted that the constant attacks occurring near the Morelos Market are due to the ongoing struggle between criminal groups for control.
On May 3rd, in front of the “10 de Mayo” tortilla shop, near the Morelos Market, criminals murdered a suspected drug dealer.
Although other accounts claim that the victim was a man who had been the target of an attempted robbery a few days prior, and when the assailants tried to steal his motorcycle, they returned and killed him.
In addition, on April 20th, armed men dressed as mariachis stormed into a stall in the Morelos Market, where they shot three men and held one of them captive for several minutes.
