Darío Javier González Olmedo, 44, and Onix Cortez García, both Ecuadorian nationals, have been missing in Morelos for nine days, after all communication with them was lost while they were traveling in the southern part of the state. Their families are demanding the intervention of Mexican authorities and the Ecuadorian Embassy in Mexico for their prompt location.
According to information provided by their families, both entered Mexico as part of a tourist trip that began in Mexico City, from where they planned to travel to the state of Morelos as part of their itinerary.
The last confirmed contact occurred on April 29, when they sent their families a couple of photographs indicating that they were arriving in the municipality of Jojutla, in the southern part of the state.
In that message, they indicated that they were continuing their journey within the state, but no further communication was heard from them.
After that message, their phones stopped registering activity, and communication was permanently cut off. Since then, there has been no further information about their whereabouts.
Given the lack of contact, family members in Ecuador have initiated efforts with Mexican authorities and their country’s diplomatic mission to activate the corresponding search mechanisms.
Due to the distance, they indicate that they are unable to conduct a direct search within Mexican territory, and therefore depend on institutional follow-up.
Meanwhile, in Morelos, information has begun circulating on social media to try to locate the two tourists. The posts include their photographs and a citizen’s missing person report shared by users and support networks, with the aim of gathering information that will help locate them.
To date, the Morelos State Attorney General’s Office, headed by Fernando Blumenkron Escobar, has not publicly reported the issuance of official missing person reports nor has it released any updates on the investigation.
