Mexico breaks record for tourist arrivals; the country is trending: Sheinbaum

“The people of Mexico are happy; there is joy, and even more so now that the National Team won (the opening match of the World Cup). It is tremendous happiness. Mexico is wonderful and, moreover, it is fashionable,” emphasized President Claudia Sheinbaum while announcing the historic number of foreign arrivals.

From the National Palace, the federal president celebrated that this historic figure represents 9.7% more than during the same period in 2025. In April 2026 alone, 3.81 million international tourists were recorded, representing 1.8% more than in the same month last year.

In her remarks, Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora detailed that between January and April 2026, the 34.5 million visitors who arrived in the country generated an economic impact of 13.259 billion dollars. In addition, 16.5 million tourists were recorded, 5.5% more than in 2025, while 4.88 million cruise passengers were registered, 13% more, generating spending of 426.9 million dollars, equivalent to an increase of 16%.

The president highlighted during yesterday’s morning press conference that Thursday’s World Cup victory demonstrated that Mexico is a country of joy and rich culture.

“I am very happy,” she assured.

Rodríguez Zamora explained that, in April alone, historic records were achieved: 8.3 million international visitors arrived, 8.1% more than in April 2025, and 1.25 million cruise passengers were recorded, 31.5% more than the previous year, whose spending reached 109.8 million dollars, 36.4% more.

Regarding World Cup celebrations, she indicated that Fan Fest events recorded an attendance of 100,000 people in Mexico City and 200,000 people at soccer festivals held in the city’s boroughs; 50,000 attendees in Nuevo León, 38,000 in Jalisco, and 10,000 in the Itacate gastronomic area.

For her part, Sheinbaum emphasized that the image of the country is one of joy and happiness and that it demonstrated Mexico’s status as a cultural powerhouse.

“It was a very, very beautiful celebration of Mexico,” she stressed.


Mexico Attracts More Than $13 Billion in Tourism Revenue

President Claudia Sheinbaum stated yesterday that “Mexico is fashionable” after reporting that historic tourism records were registered during the first quarter of this year, with the arrival of 34.5 million foreign visitors who generated more than 13 billion dollars in economic revenue.

From the National Palace during her morning press conference, the president celebrated the figures, considering them historic because they represent 9.7% more than during the same period in 2025.

She also emphasized that 3.81 million international tourists were recorded in April alone, representing 1.8% more than in April of the previous year.

Regarding Mexico’s 2–1 victory over South Africa in the opening match of the 2026 World Cup, Sheinbaum highlighted that the country demonstrated that it is a cultural powerhouse.

“The image of Mexico is the joy, the happiness of the people and of each and every Mexican,” she celebrated.

“To see all the fans and even those who are not fans celebrating the National Team’s victory and showing the world what Mexico is: a cultural powerhouse, joy… I am very happy. I believe it is a joy that spreads among the people, throughout the entire country.”


Tourism Generates Significant Economic Revenue

In her remarks, Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora detailed that foreign visits generated an economic impact of 13.259 billion dollars.

She also stated that 16.5 million tourists were recorded, 5.5% more than in 2025, along with 4.88 million cruise passengers, an increase of 13%, whose spending reached 426.9 million dollars.

Rodríguez Zamora explained that 41.3 million passengers arrived on regular domestic and international flights, with Spain showing an increase of 23.7% and Colombia an increase of 18.7%.

Regarding World Cup celebrations, she indicated that Fan Fest events recorded an attendance of 100,000 people in Mexico City and 200,000 people in the city’s boroughs.
