A torrential downpour covered the metropolitan area of Querétaro from north to south for more than an hour, causing disruptions primarily to traffic and flooding in some western neighborhoods due to clogged drains.
According to weather reports issued this Friday by the Municipal Civil Protection Coordination, cloud activity was observed in the northern part of the municipality of Querétaro; however, the rain extended into parts of the municipalities of El Marqués and Corregidora.
After the rain passed through the northern, eastern, and western areas of the city of Querétaro, runoff occurred, mainly from the higher elevations to the lower areas. This runoff carried debris, rubble, and trash, clogging storm drains and the sewer system, which in turn caused the flooding.
The side lanes of Avenida 5 de Febrero heading towards Mexico City, near the Tremec company, experienced flooding and were closed to traffic by traffic officers and state police. No vehicles were stranded, as drivers avoided the affected lanes and instead used the main lanes.
Other affected roads included the Circuito Cerro del Tambor in Benito Juárez Park, Avenida Coahuila in the La Obrera neighborhood, Avenida Begonias at its intersection with Avenida Revolución, Avenida Popocatépetl in the Loma Bonita neighborhood, Avenida de Las Fuentes at its intersection with Camino a San Pedro Mártir in the Sauces y Fundadores neighborhood, and Prolongación Bernardo Quintana near Camino a San Pedro Mártir.
Flooding and the entry of rainwater mixed with sewage into homes in the Fundadores III, La Obrera and Huertas Don Manuel neighborhoods were also reported, so emergency protocols were activated by municipal public services personnel and the State Water Commission for the dredging of both the affected neighborhoods and the flooded roads.
