The Campeche City Hall and Dramatours inaugurated a new tourist attraction in the city: El Primer Vigía (The First Watchman), a show that combines history, drama, and a touch of mystery; an adventure through the past, present, and the city’s historical, cultural, and architectural attractions, available throughout the summer vacation period.

The municipal government, headed by Mayor Biby Rabelo, is responding to the demands of the local business community and tourism industry for more tourist attractions that appeal to visitors. El Primer Vigía is the answer to this demand.

Housed in a building that is part of the city’s architectural and cultural heritage, the Baluarte San Carlos City Museum, El Primer Vigía and its journey through the city’s history—the origin of its walled enclosure and the treasures housed within the museum—adds to the city’s tourist attractions for the enjoyment of national and international tourists, as well as local residents, enhancing their understanding of their own city.

The First Watchman offers a nighttime tour inside the San Carlos Bastion, including dramatizations and a description of the bastion’s origins, its importance to the city as a port and gateway to New Spain, the origins of its walled enclosure, and other dramatic elements that add mystery and pique the interest of participants.

This new tourism product will be offered from Wednesday to Sunday, with tours at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and two tours from Friday to Sunday: 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Those interested can find the schedule and prices on Dramatours’ social media pages on Facebook and Instagram, as well as through the promotion provided by the Campeche City Hall. It should be noted that all proceeds from this tour go directly to the company that developed the tour.

The inaugural event for El Primer Vigía took place last Saturday and was led by Jesús Aguilar Díaz, Director of Economic Development for the Municipality of Campeche. He was accompanied by business leaders such as Abraham Azar Wabi, President of the Association of Tourism Businesses of Calle 59 and the Historic Center; and Rodrigo Bojórquez, President of the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry.

Also present were Martha Adriana Reyes Aldama, leader of the Campeche Business Coordinating Council; Juan Pablo Mex Salazar, President of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism; and Héctor Cámara Mijangos, President of the Campeche Hotel and Motel Association, among others who participated in this event and will be recommending it to their members and customers.
