During the announcement, the Director of Municipal Public Services, José de Lamadrid, reported that the municipality received this award after having won the Silver Broom in 2018, a requirement to compete for the Gold category.
He explained that seven Mexican municipalities were awarded this year, including five state capitals: Campeche, Ciudad Victoria, Pachuca, Chihuahua, and Monterrey.
He emphasized that the award is not automatically given to all participants, as approximately 40 municipalities across the country were not selected.
De Lamadrid noted that Chihuahua participated with a comprehensive project that included garbage collection, street and avenue cleaning, mechanized sweeping, addressing vacant lots and illegal dumpsites, as well as utilizing the Citizen Response Center (CRC), the 072 emergency number, and the Marca el Cambio (Mark the Change) app to handle citizen reports.
The official presented the award to the mayor, Marco Bonilla, and said that the recognition reflects the work done to keep Chihuahua among the cleanest cities in the country.
