The Government of Morelos, led by Governor Margarita González Saravia, through the Ministry of Infrastructure, has begun the first phase of reconstruction work on the Coatetelco–Mazatepec highway section. This project will improve nearly two kilometers of this important roadway.
Adolfo Barragán Cena, head of the Ministry overseeing the work, explained that the initial steps involve milling and resurfacing the existing asphalt layer to rehabilitate the road surface and create the necessary conditions for laying the new asphalt concrete.
He noted that this project is part of the 2026 highway infrastructure improvement program and fulfills Governor Margarita González Saravia’s directive to promote projects that address the mobility needs of communities and strengthen communication between regions.
The Coatetelco–Mazatepec section is a strategic route, as it is one of the secondary roads connecting to the “Tierra y Libertad” Circuit, a priority project of the state government that seeks to consolidate a highway network that brings services closer, generates better travel conditions, and contributes to the economic and social development of Morelos.
With this project, families, producers, merchants, and users in the region will have a safer, more functional, and more comfortable roadway, reducing travel times and improving connectivity between communities in the western part of the state.
Barragán Cena mentioned that the agency under his direction currently has 16 road improvement projects underway in various municipalities throughout the state. Among these, the completion of the second phase of the Puente de Ixtla–Mazatepec road stands out; in addition, work continues on the first phase of the Jojutla–Chinameca section, and the rehabilitation of the Oaxtepec–Atlatlahucan highway, known as “Casahuates,” will begin soon.
With these actions, the Government of Morelos is advancing in the transformation of the state highway network, under the vision of building roads that unite communities, promote opportunities and generate well-being for the people of Morelos.
