In Baja California, the production value of transport and urbanization projects fell by 2.1% year-over-year during the January–May 2026 period compared to the same timeframe in 2025, according to the latest data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
In absolute terms, the value of such projects in the state reached 1,179.5 million pesos as of May 31, 2026—a figure below the 1,204.5 million pesos recorded on May 31, 2025, according to the statistical agency’s figures.
It is worth noting that transport and urbanization projects serve to connect cities, transport people, and move goods safely and quickly, thereby boosting economic activity.
Consequently, the decline in these types of projects reported by INEGI impacts the economy by creating a lag in road infrastructure; this hinders mobility, causes losses amounting to millions, reduces competitiveness, and discourages foreign investment.
It should be noted that the public sector is primarily responsible for transport and urbanization projects; therefore, these setbacks are likely due to budget cuts (at both state and federal levels) or delays in the tendering process, which stall projects scheduled for the current fiscal year.
Finally, the production value of transport and urbanization projects accounted for 14.1% of Baja California’s total construction industry output as of May 31, 2026, reaching a total of 8,371.4 million pesos.
