San Luis Potosí Advances With New Highways Connecting the Central Region With Matehuala and Querétaro
The governor of the state, Ricardo Gallardo Cardona, announced the progress being made on the new highways that will connect the central region of San Luis Potosí with Matehuala and Querétaro.
Through his social media accounts, the Potosí governor shared aerial photographs showing the progress of the new road projects, which represent an investment of more than 20 billion pesos each.
The images show significant progress on the highway heading toward Matehuala, while the road connecting with Querétaro is still in its initial stage.
How will the new Matehuala–San Luis Potosí highway be?
The new highway toward Matehuala will have a length of 118 kilometers and will serve as an alternative route to relieve traffic on the Villa de Arista–Matehuala section, as well as reduce travel time by at least 30 minutes between the Potosí Altiplano region and the central area of San Luis Potosí.
This project, which includes an investment of more than 20 billion pesos, will feature connections to Villa de Arista, El Peyote, and Matehuala, as well as a toll plaza, intelligent transportation systems, drainage infrastructure, and emergency ramps.
It will be a toll highway classified as type A4, with four lanes, and will also serve as an efficient alternative to reduce congestion on Federal Highway 57.
Infrastructure projects in San Luis Potosí during 2026
During a live broadcast through his official social media account, the governor stated that the budget allocated for road infrastructure projects exceeds 27 billion pesos.
Gallardo also mentioned that he would soon be delivering the longest overpass in San Luis Potosí, followed by the Puente de la Familia and the Villa Magna bridge. He also revealed that road projects continue in the Huasteca Potosina region, specifically in Tamazunchale, Aquismón, Xilitla, and soon in Axtla and Matlapa.

He also stated that thanks to these new roads, travel times have become much faster.
“We are coming from Soledad de Graciano Sánchez and in 8 minutes we are already on the other side of the city,” he said.
