Two young women disappeared after traveling to Puerto Vallarta, in the state of Jalisco, for what was reportedly a job opportunity. As a result, security authorities are warning about a possible recruitment pattern used by criminal groups.
Young Friends Disappear After Traveling to Puerto Vallarta
Families continue searching this Monday for Violeta Alejandra Santana Bueno, 21, and Melissa Anahí Carranza Contreras, 19, two close friends who were last seen on July 27 after leaving Acatlán de Juárez, Jalisco, for Puerto Vallarta in response to an alleged job offer.
According to reports, both young women told their families they were leaving home to pursue a job opportunity in the tourist destination.
However, since the day they departed, both of their cell phones have remained turned off, prompting their families to report them missing.
The families have widely shared the official missing persons bulletins in hopes of locating them. They also believe the case could be linked to the criminal organizations’ alleged practice of recruiting young people through fraudulent job offers.
Teenager Also Reported Missing in Tonalá
One day later, on July 28, Sergio Adair López García, a 16-year-old boy, was reported missing in the Paseos de Santiago neighborhood of Tonalá.
According to his mother, Yesenia García, Sergio left home after receiving messages about a job opportunity in the mountainous region of Ciudad Guzmán.
His family believes he may have been targeted by criminal groups operating in the area.
In both cases, the families stated that they have filed formal missing persons reports and asked authorities to expedite search and investigation efforts to bring the young people home.
These cases add to the disappearance of at least five teenagers between the ages of 14 and 17, who went missing between July 15 and July 17 in different municipalities across the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area.
