Querétaro-SLP Highway Project to Stay Under Wraps Until Land Rights are Secured

Governor Mauricio Kuri has confirmed that while the executive project for the new highway connecting Querétaro and San Luis Potosí is fully complete, the state will hold off on a formal public presentation until the “right-of-way” (derecho de vía) process is entirely resolved. This strategic decision aims to ensure that once the project is unveiled, construction can proceed without the delays often associated with land acquisition disputes.

The planned infrastructure, a Type A4 highway featuring four lanes, will span 95.5 kilometers. Its route is designed to connect San Juan del Río with Tequisquiapan, continuing toward the Querétaro International Airport (AIQ) and culminating at the Fray Junípero Serra beltway. This project is a cornerstone of the state’s broader initiative to alleviate traffic congestion and bolster regional connectivity.

According to Pío X Salgado, the Secretary of Urban Development and Public Works, the process of securing the necessary land is currently at 30 to 35 percent completion. Officials noted that negotiations with landowners have proceeded without significant complications thus far, and the current pre-construction phase remains focused on finalizing these acquisitions.

The project is slated for concession to the company Omega for a period of 30 to 35 years. If the right-of-way is successfully secured as planned, authorities anticipate that construction could commence between late 2026 and early 2027. Once underway, the build is expected to span approximately two years. By prioritizing land acquisition before the project’s debut, the administration seeks to provide residents and investors with a clear, realistic timeline for this major mobility expansion.
