PT Senator Geovanna Bañuelos Reports Alleged Attack on Her Team
Senator Geovanna Bañuelos de la Torre of the Labor Party (PT), who is seeking the position of Coordinator in Defense of the Transformation and Sovereignty in Zacatecas, reported an attack against members of her team after the vehicle they commonly use for transportation was involved in a serious road accident. According to the senator, the vehicle was allegedly “forced off the road.”
The incident occurred yesterday during a work tour that includes visits to nine municipalities across the state during the weekend. However, at the time of the incident, the legislator was traveling in a second vehicle accompanied by Alfredo Femat, the state leader of the PT and a local congressman, as well as federal congressman Fernando Vilchis.
In a video posted on her social media accounts last night, the senator showed the condition of the vehicle and said: “We are making a public statement right now, which we will, of course, also present to the appropriate authorities, because this accident was allegedly deliberately caused, since the person who was driving and the person accompanying him in this vehicle reported that they were forced off the road.”
Bañuelos emphasized that although she would not irresponsibly accuse anyone, she would not overlook the situation. Therefore, she said she would file a formal complaint and request the direct intervention of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob) and the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) of the Federal Government to clarify what happened.
In her message, she explained that, according to the vehicle’s occupants, the unit was forced off the road. Fortunately, everyone involved was uninjured and out of danger.
Local congressman Alfredo Femat supported the version that the incident was a deliberate attack and said that this was unprecedented during his travels throughout the state.
“Nothing had ever happened to us; last year we made three complete trips around the entire state of Zacatecas, and today something happened that had never happened to us before,” he stated.
Meanwhile, federal congressman Fernando Vilchis said that, from his point of view, “this was deliberately caused.” For that reason, they will request the urgent intervention of federal authorities, as they want a serious investigation to be opened.
