The Government of Mexico’s Secretariat of Culture, through the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) and the National Coordination for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage (CNCPC), maintains scientific monitoring of the mural paintings at the Cacaxtla Archaeological Zone in Nativitas, Tlaxcala.
After 15 years of study, specialists have not identified significant changes in the pre-Hispanic artworks adorning the archaeological site.
The project encompasses the 16 murals of the Great Platform—including The Battle, Bird and Jaguar Warriors, the Red Temple, and the Temple of Venus—which were created by the Olmec-Xicalanca culture during the Mesoamerican Epiclassic period, between 650 and 900 AD.
