The Transpeninsular Highway in Baja California experienced major disruptions following a blockade set up by residents in the delegation of San Vicente, Ensenada. The protest occurred near kilometer 90, halting traffic toward the southern parts of the municipality and San Quintín.
The demonstrations erupted in response to local tensions over the management of the community’s potable water system. Discontent grew after the State Public Water Services Commission of Ensenada (CESPE) stepped in to take direct operational control of local wells, reservoirs, and pumping equipment. While state authorities defended the intervention as a necessary step to bring institutional order, regularize distribution, and provide financial support options for vulnerable households, local factions expressed sharp disagreement regarding the transition.
Drivers, commercial transporters, and travelers faced significant delays as the blockade temporarily paralyzed the vital economic corridor linking the peninsula. State security forces and government representatives deployed personnel to the site to maintain public order, monitor the situation, and open dialogue channels with the protesting groups. Although routes have experienced intermittent reopenings, civil authorities continue to urge motorists to exercise extreme caution and anticipate delays when traveling through the San Vicente area while long-term administrative solutions are finalized.
