According to the report “Lethal Violence in Mexico in the First Half of 2026,” published by the organization México Evalúa, San Luis Potosí consolidated its position among the states with the lowest incidence of high-impact crimes in the country.
During the first six months of the year, the state recorded a homicide rate of 0.9 per 100,000 inhabitants, making it the second-lowest rate in Mexico, behind only Yucatán, which reported a rate of 0.5.
Ricardo Gallardo’s Security Strategy Places San Luis Potosí Below the National Average
This result places San Luis Potosí significantly below the national average, which stood at 6.7 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants during the same period.
The improvement in the indicators is attributed to the security strategy implemented by the administration of Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona, which combines permanent surveillance operations with policies aimed at rebuilding the social fabric.
As part of the comprehensive program addressing the causes of crime, the State Government has promoted social assistance programs that include:
- Educational scholarships for children and young people from San Luis Potosí.
- Direct financial assistance for single mothers.
- Construction of new sports and recreational facilities and road infrastructure.
- Development of cultural activities throughout the different regions of the state.
