The Coahuila government reported that an armed confrontation occurred in the municipality of Candela, resulting in the deaths of one police officer and two armed civilians. State authorities expressed their regret over the officer’s death and offered their condolences to his family.
One police officer and two armed civilians killed in confrontation in Coahuila
The head of the Coahuila Attorney General’s Office, Federico Fernández Montañez, reported that during the early morning hours of August 25, 2026, an armed confrontation was reported in the municipality of Candela, precisely on the border with the state of Nuevo León.
The prosecutor explained that shortly after 4:30 a.m., they received a report of a confrontation between state police officers assigned to the municipality of Candela and armed civilians.
As a result of the confrontation, Fernández Montañez indicated that two armed civilians were killed, while one state police officer also lost his life.
“What is the outcome of this confrontation? Two armed civilians were killed. And unfortunately, as I mentioned a moment ago, a state police officer lost his life in the line of duty, protecting Coahuila as well,” the official said.
Operation deployed following confrontation in Candela
Following these events, the Coahuila prosecutor stated that federal forces and state authorities coordinated efforts to monitor the area where the armed confrontation occurred.
“I personally contacted the federal forces, the Army, the general of the Eleventh Region, the general of the Sixth, as well as the captain of the Navy, and we are coordinating efforts to continue patrolling the area,” he said.
He also emphasized that whenever shots are fired at state security forces or at any innocent civilian, the response “will be forceful and decisive to prevent anyone from entering our state.”
Coahuila authorities mourn the death of the police officer
Prosecutor Federico Fernández Montañez also expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased police officer, emphasizing that he lost his life in the line of duty while protecting Coahuila.
“We send a very respectful message to the entire family, but also to all members of the security forces, municipal, state, and federal, who put their lives and physical well-being at risk to protect our state,” he told the media.
Governor Manolo Jiménez also expressed his condolences and reported that the deceased officer was identified as Mauro Flores Rodríguez, a member of the Secretariat of Public Security.
Finally, the Secretariat of Public Security also expressed its sorrow over the death of the state police officer, sending condolences to his family and loved ones.
“Regardless of the uniform, vest, or agency, the loss of our colleague Mauro Flores Rodríguez hurts us all equally. Your dedication to the peace of our state will remain in the memory of your fellow officers. Your watch has ended; we remain standing and fighting in your honor.
