The demand for tour operation, transportation, and organized tourism services decreased by approximately 35% in Baja California this year compared with the same period in 2025, according to the Association of Hosts and Tour Operators of Baja California (Aatopbc).
The association’s president, Iván Cortés Chávez, stated that the decline was widespread among the different segments represented by the organization, although tourism activity has begun to show signs of recovery after a slow start.

Tourism in Baja California Had a Slow Start
Cortés Chávez explained that the high season began later than usual, since the flow of travelers normally starts in the spring and continues for several months.
The trend, he noted, is not limited to Baja California, as they have **also observed a contraction in tourism activity in the United States), a situation he attributed to various economic and political factors.
He also mentioned that security-related events are among the external factors they have observed during this period.
The decline affected the different services offered by the association’s 17 member companies, which serve segments such as adventure tourism, gastronomy, events, wine tourism, and destination weddings.
Valle de Guadalupe Begins to Recover
The wedding segment also experienced a slow start this year, although it began to improve as the season progressed, which normally runs from spring through November.
In the case of Valle de Guadalupe, Cortés Chávez stated that tourism activity is currently showing signs of recovery.
“It is doing very well right now,” he said, referring to the activity they have observed at tourist destinations and through contact with people in the region.
The president of Aatopbc emphasized that Baja California has various attractions that can continue to be promoted and considered it important to maintain the promotion of gastronomy and nature-related activities.
No Cancellations Reported Due to Insecurity in Mexicali
Regarding security-related incidents reported in Mexicali, Cortés Chávez stated that, so far, the association has not received reports from members regarding service cancellations due to this reason.
“We have not received any reports from our colleagues in Mexicali, nor any incidents or situations that have prompted service cancellations.”
The association leader considered it important to continue promoting tourism in Baja California and take advantage of the various attractions the state offers to strengthen activity in the sector.
