Three children of Arturo López Obrador, brother of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, are on the payroll of the government of Veracruz, headed by Morena politician Rocío Nahle García.

Tarheni, Erandi and Arturo López Herrería hold public positions in the state, as does Leonel Efrén Rivera Pinete, the husband of one of them and current director of Public Health.

Erandi, who was appointed rector of El Colegio de Veracruz, which is under the Secretariat of Education (SEV), as recently as June 2025, receives a monthly salary of 106,433 pesos and 37 cents, according to information consulted on the National Transparency Platform.

Erandi’s salary contrasts with the amount that, according to the salary scale established within the state government, Governor Rocío Nahle receives: 84,750 pesos. In other words, López Obrador’s niece earns 21,683 pesos more per month.

Erandi López Herrería, rector of Colver, is married to Leonel Efrén Rivera Pinete, who is director of Public Health and receives a salary of 42,000 pesos per month, also within the government headed by the former Energy Secretary during López Obrador’s administration.

Meanwhile, Tarheni Andrea López Herrería, Erandi’s sister and also the daughter of Arturo López Obrador, is deputy director of the Administration of Public Charity Assets in the state of Veracruz, which falls under the Secretariat of Health (Sesver).

Nahle also appointed Pedro Arturo López Herrería, López Obrador’s nephew, as an adviser to Secretary of Government Ricardo Ahued Bardahuil, former mayor of Xalapa and former PRI member.

The list of relatives in the public sector adds to the case involving Arturo López Obrador, the father of Erandi, Tarheni and Arturo, at the Spanish cuisine restaurant Mesón Guadalupe, located in Coatepec, a municipality in the metropolitan area of Xalapa.

On Sunday afternoon, Arturo López Obrador, his wife and mother-in-law were leaving the restaurant when a group of diners shouted in unison, “Out with Morena, out with Morena, out with Morena” and “Thanks for leaving the country in ruins,” which led to an argument inside the establishment.
