With an outstanding public response of more than 10,000 people and the presentation of 21 stage productions, the 25th edition of the Nuevo León Theater Festival 2026 concluded successfully.
“Reaching the 25th edition of this festival is a source of enormous pride. Twenty-five editions of programming, of local, national, and international companies that have found in Nuevo León a stage for their work, and of audiences who, edition after edition, have made this festival an eagerly awaited event.
“This trajectory would not have been possible without the trust of hundreds of companies, creators, and institutions, without the work of the CONARTE team, but above all without the public, which throughout all these years has sustained and strengthened this project as one of the most emblematic cultural programs in our state,” said Melissa Segura Guerrero, Secretary of Culture of Nuevo León, when assessing the overall achievements of an event that has developed this successful theatrical tradition in Nuevo León.
She likewise highlighted the pride of reaching a quarter century of history, a milestone sustained by the talent of local, national, and international companies, the work of institutions, and the loyalty of the public, which has established this theatrical celebration as one of the most emblematic events in the state.
The cultural official thanked the support of the Secretariat of Culture of the Government of Mexico and the PROFEST program for decentralizing and strengthening cultural policy.
And it was that unique ability of theater to connect people and see themselves through other stories, as cited by Segura Guerrero, that the audience experienced from beginning to end at the Gran Sala of the Teatro de la Ciudad, where they attended the staging of “La danza que sueña la tortuga,” by Emilio Carballido, directed by Nohemí Espinosa, as part of the centennial celebration of the author’s birth.
Praise and prolonged applause for the cast of the production, which brought together the acting talents of Sonia Couoh, Carmen Mastache, Omar B. Betancourt, Cris Ramos, Jorge Zárate, Erika de la Llave, Berenice Riosè, and Yadira Pérez, marked the closing of the curtain at the Gran Sala of the Teatro de la Ciudad, with more than 1,000 attendees at the event.
TEN UNIQUE DAYS OF HIGH-LEVEL THEATER
This anniversary edition offered a wide-ranging cultural program aimed at all audiences —from early childhood and young people to productions exclusively for adults— over the course of 10 days of activities.
The program included productions from Mexico City, Morelos, Guanajuato, Veracruz, and Yucatán, as well as international productions from Portugal, an artistic collaboration between Mexico, Argentina, Japan, and the United Kingdom, and a strong representation of talent from Nuevo León.
At the close of this theatrical celebration, the Festival recorded a highly positive balance, attracting a total of 10,403 attendees throughout 41 scheduled activities.
The event’s infrastructure directly benefited 187 participating artists, supported by three workshop instructors, with a notable female presence consisting of 12 leading actresses, seven female directors, and 11 female playwrights.
With the objective of decentralizing the artistic offering and bringing theater to different sectors of society, performances were held at 12 venues across six municipalities in the metropolitan area: Monterrey, Escobedo, San Nicolás, Guadalupe, García, and El Carmen.
The coverage ranged from emblematic venues such as the Teatro de la Ciudad —including its Gran Sala, Experimental Hall, Esplanade, and classrooms— the Teatro del Centro de las Artes, and the Centro Cultural Metropolitano, to spaces with a social and inclusive focus, including two healthcare facilities —the Hospital Materno Infantil and the Esferas de García and El Carmen—, three cultural centers, including the Centro Comunitario San Bernabé, the Main Plaza of Guadalupe, and the Women’s Social Reintegration Center (Ceprereso).
The Nuevo León Theater Festival 2026 was organized by the Council for Culture and the Arts of Nuevo León (CONARTE), with the support of the Secretariat of Culture of the Government of the State of Nuevo León and the Secretariat of Culture of the Government of Mexico, through the call for applications of the Program for Support of Cultural and Artistic Festivals (PROFEST).
