Yesterday, one day after a work tour by Governor Mara Lezama, a taxi driver was shot to death in this municipality, in yet another episode of the wave of violence that has not ceased to affect this community.

The shooting occurred on Wednesday morning in the area of Aldea Zamá, when the taxi driver from the Tulum ‘Tiburones del Caribe’ union was intercepted by men who were traveling in a white pick-up truck, according to witnesses.

However, the taxi driver of unit 1214, seriously injured, tried to flee and ask for help, so he headed towards the ‘2 de Octubre’ invasion zone where he stopped his unit in an establishment where he tried to hide, at the height of Juan Ek Avenue with Yaxchilán, where he died.

The deceased, identified as Tiburcio ‘N’, and originally from Panabá, Yucatán, received at least three shots, which caused an intense mobilization of the police forces without any reports of arrests.

The taxi driver’s body remained at the scene until the authorities arrived to cordon off the area and gather the first evidence of the case.
