A long line of semi-trailer trucks formed Sunday night along the federal highway between Sonoyta and San Luis Río Colorado. According to posts shared by truck drivers on social media, the traffic backup had reached kilometer 164 by around 10:00 p.m., heading toward the Cucapah military checkpoint, located at kilometer 179.
According to testimonies shared by truck drivers, wait times ranged from 10 to 16 hours, a situation they said has caused fatigue, lack of rest, and exposure to high temperatures, especially for drivers whose trucks are not equipped with air conditioning.
Comments on social media also indicate that inspections were being carried out by members of the National Guard, with support from military personnel. However, as of now, no official statement has been issued confirming the cause of the lengthy delays or the nature of the operation.
The posts also reflect drivers’ concerns about the economic losses resulting from the delays, as well as the impact on the transportation of goods to destinations across the country.
Meanwhile, according to reports shared by truck drivers on social media, the line of vehicles continued to grow throughout the night.
